Opened in 1892, the Portland Art Museum is the oldest art museum in the Pacific Northwest and features over 33,000 permanent
pieces. The museum has extensive collections of European paintings, American, Asian, African, and pre-Columbian art, as well as contemporary
works from the Northwest and beyond. They also host traveling exhibits that range in theme from the decorative arts of Paris to the works of
Grandma Moses. |

The SAM stands firm as the Northwest's major art venue. The four floors host Asian art, with Chinese and Korean masterworks a
special feature, European art, an exhibit space on the first floor, and African, Indian, and Aboriginal art on the third floor. The collection
of Northwest tribal art, from totem poles to pottery, is extensive and world-class. SAM's store always has art books, posters, and assorted
merchandise for museum-goers to take a piece of art home with them. |
