SOUTHCENTER MALL
Be sure to wear comfy shoes to this mall! As one of the largest indoor shopping centers, Southcenter is packed with shops and packed with people. It easy to see why when you consider that aside from hundreds of specialty shops, there's also Bon Marche, JC Penney, Mervyn's, Nordstrom, and Sears. Among fun shops like A Bit of Hawaii, The Disney Store, and a Mariners Team Store, are such practical necessities as a bank, post office, community resource center, and a Firestone Tire & Auto Center. A trip to Southcenter can be an all day event, but when you're through, chances are you'll have checked off everything on your To Do and To Buy lists.

RAINIER SQUARE
Amid the tall buildings of Seattle's core business district sits Rainier Square, a rather understated mall that offers a combination of the upscale and the practical. Eddie Bauer, Louis Vitton, and Brooks Brothers are here, as are the offices of United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, and Northwest. But this mall is also home to a well-kept secret: A fantastic rooftop garden that is the perfect place to take a breather from the hubbub of downtown.

UWAJIMAYA
Uwajimaya has outgrown its designation as simply an Asian supermarket, and has edged its way into mall territory. Within this colossal market are the ingredients for any type of Asian cuisine you could possibly cook, yummy and exotic candies and snacks, a huge Asian housewares department, and a bookstore. The seafood counter has a live tank with crabs, lobsters, and geoducks; and the butcher shop is one of the only places you can find prized Wasyugyu beef. If you're hungry for something that doesn't entail a mess in the kitchen, Uwajimaya is also home to Korean, Filipino, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai restaurants. For something even more hassle-free, pick up pre-made bento boxes, sushi, and sashimi at the deli counter. A hint to Hello Kitty fans: Uwajimaya carries the complete Sanrio line! Don't want to leave? The newly built Uwajimaya Apartments are right upstairs.

NORTHGATE MALL
As America's first indoor shopping center, Northgate Mall has all the shops that mall consumers have come to depend on. There are big department stores like Nordstrom, Bon Marche and JC Penney, and smaller favorites like Eddie Bauer, Victoria's Secret, and The Limited. Don't eat before you visit this mall: The food court is home to an Ivar's Seafood Bar and Kidd Valley hamburgers.

KIRKLAND PARK PLACE
Kirkland Parkplace is a pretty mall in the heart of Kirkland. It is home to such useful spots as QFC, 24 Hour Fitness, Woods Lakeshore Pharmacy, and a Loews Cineplex, but Parkplace also has a fun side. The Orion Ballroom is here, so is the Parkplace Book Co., and a do-it-yourself ceramics gallery. Hoffman's Fine Pastries and Best Cellars will please gourmands; and those who just like to eat can do so at Rikki Rikki and TGI Fridays.
