CELLOPHANE SQUARE
Scott McCaughey of the Young Fresh Fellows worked there and Pearl Jam guitarist Steve Gossard once filled out an application. If that's not enough to convince you of this local chain's "indie credibility" check out the staff's "Best Of" lists that include everything from The Boredoms to Johnny Cash and Wu Tang Clan. You can find both new and used CDs at Cellophane Square, as well as frequent in-store appearances by local and touring bands.

WHEREHOUSE MUSIC
Although it's a big chain, one can find some mighty fine deals here. Not only are the Top 20 CDs always on sale, but DVDs are 20% off every day. But it gets better: Every Tuesday customers can trade-in five used CDs for one new one. Pretty hip for a corporate giant.

SINGLES GOING STEADY
Singles Going Steady is about as indie of an indie record shop as you will find. Specializing in rare American and International releases (both used and new), Singles Going Steady is where to go when you're pining for that Exploited album you pawned as a teen or want to pick up The Makers latest CD. Thankfully, you won't have to flip through Brittany Spears or Celine Dion albums in order to find what you're looking for here; Singles Going Steady carries nothing but punk, ska, oi, hardcore, hip-hop, garage, rockabilly and related genres. Punk's not dead yet.

BOP STREET RECORDS
Chosen as one of "Seattle's Best Places" every year since 1984, and also featured on "CBS This Morning," Bop Street Records is the result of a lifetime of dedication and the number one passion of owner Dave Voorhees. A veritable walking encyclopedia of music, Voorhees can tell you almost anything you need to know about that elusive record you've been hunting down - and, even better, there's a good chance he can locate it in his inventory of more than one million items. Bop Street Records specializes in 50s and 60s rock, blues, and rockabilly, but the shop carries a whole lot of everything.
