Lake Union is a neighborhood undergoing a dynamic transformation and poised to become one of Seattle's most exciting neighborhood communities. With numerous important development projects underway or in the planning stages, these are exciting times for change for lake Union.
With a wonderful lake and waterfront site as its foundation and an enviable proximity to Seattle's downtown core and the freeway, lake Union is prime real estate. Today Lake Union is brimming with trendy restaurants such as Chandlers Cove, Bluewater bistro, Rocksalt on Latitude 47, Cucina! Cucina! Shops, art galleries, a fabulous marina, houseboats and recreation establishments from kayak rentals to a floatplane company.
Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's investment company Vulcan recently purchased eight parcels of land from the city for over $20 million. Vulcan, now the biggest landowner in the neighborhood, with over 40 acres, has taken an active role in working with lake Union community and neighborhood groups such as the South Lake union Friends and Neighbors.
From the City of Seattle's Strategic Planning Office, The Neighborhood Planning Association, South Lake union Friends and Neighbors to Vulcan - projects and the players are involved in the remaking and improvement of South Lake Union. Proposals under consideration include a new South Lake Union Park, proposed bicycle and walking trails, transportation improvement, a museum, office-retail-condo complexes and much more.
