The Seattle Art Museum is acclaimed for its presentation of a broad array of extraordinary art, both past and present. Exhibitions are global
in scope and have covered such diverse subjects as African and Egyptian art to John Singer Sargent and Leonardo Da Vinci.
The museum's permanent collection contains over 20,000 objects and is housed on four floors of exhibits. The renowned Asian, African, and Northwest
Coast Native American collections each contain an impressive selection of art and artifacts that include everything from masks and textiles
to paintings, sculpture and contemporary artworks. The Japanese Collection alone is ranked as one of the top five U.S. collections of Japanese
art, and the Northwest Coast Native American collection is accepted as one of the preeminent collections of its type in the world.
The museum's Modern Art Collection contains nearly 6,000 pieces, 2,000 of which are from distinguished Pacific Northwestern artists. Including
Morris Graves, Jacob Lawrence, and Dale Chihuly. Jackson Pollack, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein are also duly represented. Included in the
Western Art holdings are over 1,600 pieces of European paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. The art books, posters, and assorted art-related
merchandise found at the museum's store provide perfect mementos from a visit and also make excellent gifts. |
